FIGUBO

Figubo is an international photography project focused on doll and figure photography.

This page explains how exhibitions, interviews and publications work within the project.

For more than 10 years, we have been introducing photographers from around the world through curated exhibitions, interviews, and publications. Our goal is to present doll and figure photography as a unique form of visual storytelling that connects photography, miniature worlds, and contemporary pop culture.

Figubo collaborates with photographers internationally and presents their work both online and in physical exhibition spaces.

EXHIBITIONS

Figubo regularly organizes exhibitions in the Czech Republic and plans to expand its activities internationally.

Animefest Exhibition

One of our main exhibition platforms is Animefest, the largest Japanese pop culture festival in the Czech Republic with more than 20 years of history.

Each year we present a curated selection of works from international photographers.

Gallery Exhibitions

In addition to festival exhibitions, we also organize gallery exhibitions that require longer preparation.

In 2024 we held a large exhibition at PETROF Gallery, presenting works from photographers from multiple countries.

Future international exhibitions are currently being planned, including a long-term goal of organizing a Figubo exhibition in Japan.

PARTICIPATION

Photographers participating in Figubo exhibitions do not pay any exhibition fees.

The Figubo team handles:

  • printing of photographs
  • preparation of exhibition panels
  • installation and exhibition design

Photographers usually only provide the image files.

The project is supported by the Figubo team and partners such as Animefest.

INTERVIEWS

Figubo regularly publishes interviews with photographers on the website.

These interviews focus on the artistic approach, creative process, and photographic style of each photographer.

Interviews are typically published in two language versions:

  • the original language of the photographer
  • an English translation

PRINTED PUBLICATIONS

Selected interviews are also published as limited printed magazine editions.

These publications are editorially prepared and designed by the Figubo team, and produced in small collector editions documenting the work of individual photographers and the development of the Figubo project.

If a printed edition is produced, the photographer receives a complimentary copy.

RECOGNITION AND PRINTING BACKGROUND

Figubo is closely connected to professional graphic design and print production.

Members of the Figubo team are directly involved in graphic design and high-quality digital printing, which allows us to produce exhibitions and printed publications within our own production environment.

This background allows us to maintain a strong focus on high-quality photographic printing and publication design.

Some of the printed projects created in connection with Figubo photographers have also received recognition in professional printing competitions.

Finalist – Sappi Print Production of the Year
Awarded for a printed set consisting of a wall calendar and an interview magazine featuring the Japanese photographer nono.

2nd Place – Igepa Awards (Best 2D Product)
Recognition for a wall calendar featuring photographs by the Korean photographer Seaumi.

MEDIA AND RECOGNITION

Figubo has also been featured in the Czech professional design magazine Font.

Font is a long-established publication dedicated to graphic design, advertising, typography, and print production. The magazine has been published since 1991 and is widely read by designers, photographers, and printing professionals.

The article introduced the Figubo project and its collaboration with international doll and figure photographers.
